Traces: Because it's Monday...

Saturday I shot a wedding with the talented Ashley! Ashley is a master at the ring shot, and it challenged me to play at it today to hopefully improve in that area. My only macro-ish lens is really a piece of poo-poo, but you gotta make do with what you have, right? After about an hour, I wasn't really pleased with anything I had shot... at least not in the classic, beautiful ring shot kind of way. So I took one I liked in theory, and grunged it out, in the very "me making things look old" sort of way. Anyway... let me know what you think. Meanwhile, I will keep practicing to be as good as Ashley!

Faces: Meet Carly Beth!

This week, I took a few days to travel the state and catch up with some of my friends I don't get to see very often. Good times were had! But on Friday, I was able to meet a new addition to my friends Mandy and Todd's life! Their new little bundle, Carly, was a week and a day old and so adorable! She has the biggest, brightest eyes! She was a total sweetheart and very content while her mom and I got caught up. Of course I had to take a couple of shots of her before I left...too bad she had already fallen asleep! :-) Meet Miss Carly Beth Watson!

Faces: Fierce

Sooooo, you may not know this about me, but I LOVE America's Next Top Model. Not because I care anything about "reality tv" shows or the model drama... but I am addicted to it because of the amazing photo shoots they show! For me, it's just inspiration! I really enjoy seeing what/how they shoot, and then the final product at the end of the show.. right before some poor girl must immediately return to the house, pack her belongings, and go home. If there is ever a marathon on, chances are I will get sucked into watching several episodes. That happened not too long ago to me and my sister. I can't even remember what season it was but they did these awesome black and white portraits of the girls with natural light and smokey eyes! The images were a little gritty, and so beautiful and natural. Needless to say my sister and I decided to try it out ourselves in the backyard. Here is her best shot:

Anyway, we had a lot of fun with it. I can't wait until another marathon:-)

Faces: Amber and Matt

This past weekend, I had an unusual opportunity to shoot a wedding at the last minute! I will spare you the scary details, but the photographer scheduled for the day was unavoidably detained out of state, and he asked my photographer friend Adam to fill in for him. He called me at 12:30 asking if I could be at the wedding to help him out at 3:30! That's only 3 hours notice! Usually I like to brainstorm and prepare for a wedding day in advance, but this did not afford me that luxury! My heart went out to the couple, and of course I said yes. Luckily, I was still able to eat lunch with my daddy for Father's Day!

Amber and Matt were amazing, as were their families, about the situation. If it had been me, I think I would have been freaking out a little more! They were so appreciative that we showed up, and the day went really well. And it was awesome for us because we had some fun people to shoot, and I even knew a couple of the guests! ha. Here are a few of my favorites from the day! Enjoy!

Places/Faces: Brazil

Last year I took a four month hiatus from my life in the states and traveled down to South America, specifically to Brazil. I had been on two other occasions with my church for short term missions trips. On my first, I fell in love with the people we were working with. They are an indigenous tribe that dwell in villages along the riverbanks of the Amazon River Basin. I lived among them in several different villages, learning their culture and customs, and helping a Brazilian missionary share the gospel with them. It was a powerful and life-changing experience. I was not there for the purpose of taking pictures, however, I found many occasions to do so. The children especially loved to be my subjects! Many of them had probably never had their picture taken. They captured my heart in ways I can't describe, and when I spend much time looking at my pictures of them, it's hard not to get choked up. Anyway, until now, I hadn't shared many of my pictures of them except with family and friends. So after saying all that, here are some portraits I recently re-visited and edited. Enjoy:-)

As promised... here is a collection of human subjects! After this, I will be posting more recent work... but for now I just wanted to get stuff up for you lovelies to look at! Enjoy!

And just to clarify... I was formerly marking my work as ".bec." which is short for Becca (me!). So don't let it throw ya!

Places/Traces

For your visual pleasure, I have created a gallery of some past work (portraits coming later). This is a jumbled mix of imagery with really no cohesive theme. In my Flickr account, it is simply labeled "Things". Enjoy!

bloggity blog blog

Sooooooo... after about a 4 year hiatus from blogging about my life (xanga, anyone?), I have resurrected the idea of informing the handful of people who may read this, about what I am up to day to day. However this go round will focus mainly on my professional life as a photographer, and my new adventure into the realms of self-employment. Woooo! Apparently blogging is BIG to those who are self-employed, and have time to play online all day (just kidding guys!). Although nothing is official yet, I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and register the name for this blog.... for the near future:-). Big things are in motion! So until I can say more, I will say goodbye.

For more interesting Web Log reading... check out these ladies (who are also my dear friends and blog way better than I do!)... April, Ashley, Amber, and JoAnna :-)
